Major is a wonderful senior we pulled from a county shelter because he was just so sweet and gentle. He has a soft as silk personality and a very soft coat to match. Major is about 10 years old and certainly acts like he had a nice life as a beloved pet in the past. He is trusting and easy going, is cuddly when held and has the attitude that all will be just fine. He adores snuggling with people and with other sweet dogs. He is great on the leash and loves to walk slowly and explore new smells and places. He still is curious about the world and alert. Inside the house he likes to trot around and check stuff out and he has a pretty perky little trot for an older fellow. He likes to keep on the move unless it is all important snuggle time. He seems to be completely non territorial and non possessive and is not even interested in marking bushes and such outside. He sniffs and moves on, like a girl. Major is great with other dogs and enjoys snuggling in the bed with his gentle senior roommate here at the shelter. He is quiet so if you are looking for a guard dog, Major says no thanks to that job! When it is time to hang out, Major does enjoy a warm lap. When you pick him up, he just rests quietly in your arms and enjoys smooches and hugs. He really enjoys a soft and cuddly dog bed with some blankies to burrow in. If you are looking for a super sweet, very easy to live with, quiet and charming little senior, Major fits the bill perfectly. He may have been loved in his prior life but his teeth were completely neglected so he just had a really thorough dental. He needed a lot of teeth pulled but his mouth should feel so much better even though he will look a little more like a sweet old man now (no dentures!). He is still able to eat dry food, slightly softened. He seems to be healthy and fairly fit otherwise. Major does not have good depth perception and has that long Doxi body and short legs, so he needs to go to a family with a one story home. He is not safe on stairs. Since he loves to be lifted and carried, it is easy to get him in and out of the house if you have a few stairs at your entryway. He also loves to be lifted in and out of the car, no trouble at all since he is a petite little guy. Since Major walks a little slowly, he loves to go on long adventures nestled in a doggie stroller. He sits perfectly still, enjoying the ride and all the sights and smells. He also very much enjoys and needs walks, of course, but the stroller is an option if you prefer a faster pace at times or have another younger dog he could not keep up with.
