Odie is a handsome little 8 and a half pound Chihuahua mix with the most charming forever puppy face and big soulful eyes that reach right into your heart. He has spent his whole life cooped up in a trailer with 29 other dogs in a hoarders home and has never known what it is like to receive one on one attention and love. Though currently and understandably very shy, he yearns for that special love from humans and it is clear that all he needs is a little time and to be tenderly shown how wonderful life as a beloved pet can be. Odie already will snuggle for the longest time on your lap, listening to a kind voice and enjoying being held and stroked. He will gaze up into your eyes, so ready to trust and fall deeply in love with you. Sweet Odie is naturally submissive, a kind and gentle dog. He is definitely a people pleaser, just needs time to understand how to be a normal dog. He is very attentive and curious about everything we do here and he is learning very quickly, a smart little guy. We can tell that he is going to be a happy and fun little friend once he relaxes and learns about things like play and toys. Odie has never been on a leash before but he will tolerate a collar just fine. He currently just sits quietly while you hold the leash, not yet understanding that he can stand up and walk around while you are holding it. He is so smart and eager to learn about new things that we are sure he will be fine on the leash with some practice. In the meantime, we are requiring that his new family have a securely fenced yard for his security and so that he can be let outside to potty without a leash like he is used to. Odie and another pup from the hoarder are currently living peacefully in the kitchen here at the shelter to help socialize them and they are doing very well with pottying outside. He gets along well with the other little dogs and he likes to snuggle with a little female friend. Because he is so shy, he will need to have another sweet little pup in his new home. His 6 and a half pound Chihuahua friend is also available for adoption or he can be a companion to your current little dog. Odie will thrive in a peaceful household with patient new owners who will let him blossom at his own pace. He has wonderful potential and is already showing us how very loving he can be. His eye contact is fabulous and he really wants you to teach him what to do. If you have the love in your heart and the patience to rehabilitate a deserving rescue pup, and are ready to work with Odie and experience the amazing transformation he is already starting, you will be richly rewarded by this affectionate little snuggler. Odie is so special we brought him here all the way from West Virginia. He just had his dental cleaning and had to have some teeth pulled but feels so much better and is ready to start his new life with you!
